Matthew 28:1-10

He is not here, for he has been raised, just as he said. Come and see the place where he was lying.

Matthew 28:6 NET

When Jesus’ body was taken down from the cross, it was wrapped in cloth and placed in a tomb. The tomb had a huge heavy stone rolled in front of it and soldiers were ordered to guard the tomb. Why would the tomb needed a guard? Well the chief priests were afraid that His disciples would come and steal Jesus’ body, so they could claim He was raised from the dead.

However, the disciples didn’t have to do anything! On the third day, what we know as Easter Sunday, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Jesus were walking to the tomb. Suddenly there was another earthquake and the stone in front of the tomb was split in two! An angel appeared and the guards were so frightened by the angel’s appearance that they ran away. The angel spoke to the women and told them that Jesus was not there! He had been raised! The angel instructed the women to spread the news to Jesus’ disciples and told them that Jesus would meet them in Galilee.

The women ran full of excitement to spread this most amazing news! But, before they reached the disciples they met Jesus! They worshipped Him and he repeated the same message as the angel.

Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins, but He didn’t stay dead and buried in the tomb. He rose again and He still lives with our Father in Heaven!

Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that since Christ has been raised from the dead, he is never going to die again; death no longer has mastery over him. For the death he died, he died to sin once for all, but the life he lives, he lives to God. So you too consider yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Romans 6:8-11 NET

  • Where was Jesus buried?
  • Who went to visit his tomb?
  • What did they find?

Thank you God for showing Your amazing power through the death and resurrection of Jesus. We pray we can live a full life in Christ!
