Prayer of Faith

James 5: 15-16

And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick and the Lord will raise him up – and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. So confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great effectiveness.

James moves on to talk about prayer and healing. He says that if we pray in faith for someone who is sick they will be healed. Does this then mean that everyone we pray for will be healed, even if it’s a great sickness? Not necessarily. God can heal anyone – He is all powerful! But, sometimes it isn’t in His will to heal someone. Sometimes it’s their time to return to Him. This can be sad and scary for us, but God always has a plan and a reason.

James continues to talk about confession. Confession of our sins is a great way to heal our selves spiritually, and also physically. If we have sinned, the weight of the sin can make us feel sick, anxious, or tired. By confessing we release that burden and accept God’s forgiveness. It’s always good to confess our sins to a parent, a Christian friend, or a leader or elder at church.

Above all, whether we pray for healing, confession, or anything else, if we do that with the belief that God is all powerful, and if we do that with the passion that shows God we care, we will show God we have great faith in Him!

Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

  • Can God heal the sick?
  • Why should we confess our sins?
  • How should we pray?

Thank you God for always hearing our prayers. Please help us to pray in faith that you are all powerful and your will is perfect.
